Senior Communications Manager
Maria Rohani joins GDIP as Senior Communications Manager, focusing on WiDEF. Maria is a human rights practitioner with more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of gender justice, technology, and social movements.
She most recently served as a Policy Development Lead on Hate Speech and Harassment at YouTube, where she spearheaded policy efforts to combat misogynistic content on the platform. Before YouTube, she worked at UN Women where she oversaw the development of the “Public Conversation,” a digital platform designed to bring civil society into the Generation Equality Forum. From 2017 to 2019, she was the first Social Movements Advisor at CARE USA, leading an organization-wide strategy for engaging with activists and movements around the globe. She has held positions at a number of human rights organizations, including UNFPA, the Global Fund for Women, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance.
Maria holds an MA degree in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University and a BA degree in Peace and Conflict Studies and Political Science from UC Berkeley. She is based in Brooklyn, New York.
