Various barriers, including unaffordable devices and data tariffs, inequalities in education and digital skills, social norms that discourage women and girls from being online, and concerns about privacy, safety, and security, prevent women and girls from accessing the internet and participating online.
Women are already accomplishing amazing things in the digital economy. Their experiences as content creators and entrepreneurs, however, are more of an exception than the norm.
While digital exclusion restricts opportunities for women and girls who are unable to connect, it also has broader societal and economic consequences that affect everyone.
