In an interview for Internet Society Foundation’s The Future of the Internet series, Global Digital Inclusion Partnership (GDIP) Executive Director Sonia Jorge discusses the concepts of the gender digital divide and meaningful connectivity.
Supported by the Internet Society Foundation’s Research Grant Program, GDIP’s study, Connected Resilience: Gendered Experiences of Meaningful Connectivity through a Global Pandemic, found that excluding women from the digital world in low- and middle-income countries has cost over a trillion dollars in the past decade. If we do not address the gender digital divide by 2030, we risk losing an additional 500 billion dollars in these same countries.
